About Us at STRIVE Movement

Pain free movement

Our lead Osteopath James studied Sports Science, gaining a Masters degree from Loughborough University and trained as a Personal Trainer, spending almost 10 years helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.

During this time, he realised that for most people, the first step on any health and fitness journey starts with resolving aches, pains, and injuries.

Most clients suffer a menagerie of musculoskeletal issues that rob them of their ability to move freely and easily. A problem he can relate to.

James' Journey into Osteopathy

“Since being a young boy, I have always loved running around, playing games and taking part in sport. I loved football, rugby, and cricket. I loved nothing better than to run around in the park with friends.

Unfortunately, I have never been talented enough to get paid to play sport, but I did discover a passion for taking part, training, health and fitness.

Back pain runs in my family, and even in my 20’s, I struggled to overcome limitations in my own movement. In 2010, a slipped a disc. An intervertebral disc (the ‘spacer’ between each and every spinal segment) in my back herniated, cutting off the nerve supply to my leg. I suffered ‘foot drop’, a condition where the foot goes limp protruded and floppy.

Only after a surgeon literally scraped the bulging disc away from my sciatic nerve, followed by 18 months of rehabilitation, did I regain what I would call ‘natural movement’. This experience triggered a seismic shift in my perspective on training and sparked a passion to learn more about the human body.

Rather than body building, I learnt about Pilates, yoga, and core training. I studied to be an Osteopath in Auckland New Zealand, working with elite athletes at the New Zealand Institute of Sport, before setting up my own Osteopathic practice in Southwell, North Nottinghamshire. My next 15 years were spent helping literally thousands of clients, restore their ‘natural movement’.

My experiences have taught me that movement is vital, not only to health and fitness, but also recovery from pain and injury. Osteopathic manipulation restores natural movement of your bones and joints, whilst ‘intelligent training’ improves your ability to bend and lift, step and reach, push and pull, shift and twist, run and jump, crawl, carry and climb.

In future, I hope to continue helping people resolve their aches, pains and injuries, but I also to share my experience with likeminded individuals, providing online resources for patients, athletes, trainers, coaches and therapists who are interested in natural movement and intelligent training.”

Chinese Acupuncturist

Catherine Musgrove

Catherine is providing traditional Chinese acupuncture and reflexology at STRIVE Movement.

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that works to balance the flow of qi (pronounced “chee”), or vital energy, that flows through the body along pathways called meridians.

The insertion of fine needles into specific points along these meridians is thought to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes and restore balance to the flow of qi to treat a variety of health conditions and to promote overall health and well-being.
