Osteopathy at STRIVE Movement

Pain free movement

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of complementary and alternative medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system and its connection to other parts of the body.

Osteopaths apply a range of techniques, including massage, manipulation, mobilisation, and acupuncture to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. Osteopathy is a protected title and as such, all Osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

“Rather than just treating symptoms, James has really helped me get to the root of my pain. Finally understanding my condition created an emotional relief”.

– Patient testimony.

Treatment is best performed on skin but can be performed over clothing. Attire suitable for light exercise – shorts, t-shirt or singlet for females is ideal.

There may be times where it is necessary to expose areas of skin for medical assessment or treatment, but at all times our patient’s comfort and wellbeing is of paramount importance.

At the end of the sessions there should be opportunity to discuss issues regarding lifestyle, diet and exercise.

Allow approx. 1 hour for the initial assessment, but follow up sessions typically last 30 and 40 minutes.

Any treatment can lead to a short-term exacerbation of symptoms and may cause residual soreness, so allow appropriate rest for optimal recovery. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid vigorous activity to aid recovery and allow time for a good treatment response. If you feel concerned at any point following treatment do not hesitate to contact us.

Treatment depends upon your condition and a course of treatment can vary but is usually between 3 and 5 sessions. Be aware that chronic conditions can take longer. We do encourage some exercise rehabilitation as pain reduces to prevent future relapse.

Osteopathy is frequently covered by major insurance companies. We do not presently deal with insurers directly so please consult with your provider for details.

Osteopathic soft tissue treatment can be very similar to sports massage but is more focused on injury and improved function rather than post performance recovery.
